History

In 1853, the university was established, and the continuation of its operations has started since September 1906 from Gainesville Campus. An educator from North Carolina and a state senator James Henry Roper, he opened a school in Gainesville also known as the Gainesville Academy. In 1866, he offered to the state of Florida for an exchange.

In 1906, after a lot of appreciation and hard work. The Florida Museum of national history was merged with the University of Florida to understanding, preserving and interpreting biological diversity and cultural heritage.

President Albert Murphree organizes the university and colleges under a single mission in 1909.

President John J. Tigert in 1928 created the opportunity of grant-in-aid athletic scholarships program.
